Y Bont : The Bridge

Installation at Porth Plaza 2007.

Artstation were invited by Rhondda Cynon Taff Council to celebrate the old bridge at Pontypridd by William Edwards built in 1749 by building one our installations with the community in Porth.

At this moment a new 'Rialto' bridge was being constructed at Porth. And as the team started work planning and developing Y Bont, the artists arranged for the engineer Neil of Costains who designed the Porth bridge to engage with the Artstation team. The artists also invited philosopher Chris Groves to help tease out meanings and explore the immediate and long term impact of bridges. This process proved highly productive, an engagement stage missing in the planning for the new Porth bridge. Locals had had their lives disrupted and for some feelings ran high. New understanding and engagement through the research and creation of Y Bont Installation helped equip the local team with experience to effectively raise their concerns with local counsellors.
