SMS text messages form the mobile phone of a teenager were centre justified, rotated sideways and printed at 72 point Roman script. Drawing back the printed walls the text gave the illusion of a giant sound recording - a textual voice. The messages mapped the teenagers interaction within a network of friends and at time hilarious events. We were fortunate to be trusted with these precious messages they provided a glimpse into the anonymised revelry of park and city life becoming a snapshot of a time in which social media was gaining it’s foothold in the fabric of our society during 2010. Visitors were invited to send SMS their own messages into the artists software which projected a continuing script of glyphs and characters into the mix. The curator described the work as an attempt to touch the new communication space emerging in society through the private adoption of mobile phone culture, its instant and seemingly ubiquitous connectivity.
