Invited listening in Bute Park Cardiff

11 people gathered early on May 2nd 2021 for International Dawn Chorus Day.

Artstation (Davidson + Fedeski) presented a binaurally enhanced event to celebrate and promote world wide listening. A paper about the event will be available soon through this website and in the meantime below are images from the event and the binaural recording we made to be listened to through headphones.

Thanks to everyone who took part and for their excellent feedback.

Dawn Listening

Celebrate this year’s International Dawn Chorus Day by listening with friends to Bute Park waking up.

Glenn and Mike invite you to listen to the dawn chorus and to experience a small part of the ecological system on Sunday 2nd May – our contribution to International Dawn Chorus Day.

We hope compensation for such an early start will primarily be about just being there together in situ. Seeing the dawn in, and listening to birds awakening, is always affecting, even profound. We will explore, through sound, this experience of life waking all around us in its natural habitat, a moment of being with which we connect emotionally. Expect us on this auspicious day to engage in a little playfulness and introduce you to a new technique we have been exploring for collective listening electronically.

If you want to know more about the cultural theory underlying this phase of our work, please see the attached document. For an introduction to International Dawn Chorus Day (in an earlier year), follow this BBC link. For further links to sites on birds and bird song in Britain, try this RSPB page
